Sri Lanka capital market gets boost in Mumbai

Mumbai, 21st February 2013: The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) in association with Bloomberg Data Services today hosted an Investor Forum in Mumbai titled 'Invest Sri Lanka', to promote and attract institutional investment funds, high networth investors and top business corporates of India into the Island's capital market. The forum acted as a platform for CSE and nine leading listed companies from Sri Lanka to highlight and showcase Sri Lanka's growth potential and evaluate the country's equity market value proposition. The event was attended by over 150 fund managers and businesspersons with commercial and economic interests in Sri Lanka. The companies listed on CSE who participated in this event were John Keells Holdings PLC, Carson Cumberbatch PLC, Hatton National Bank PLC, National Development Bank PLC, Hayleys PLC, DFCC Bank PLC, Commercial Bank PLC, Access Engineering PLC and Dialog Axiata PLC. Mr. Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Governor, Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Dr. Nalaka Godahewa, Chairman, The Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) and Mr. Krishan Balendra Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE), Chairman addressed the participants and made comprehensive presentations, elaborating on the economic and investment opportunities in the country.

Speaking about opportunities available in Sri Lanka, Mr. Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Governor, Central Bank of Sri Lanka said, "Sri Lanka is now the fastest growing economy in South Asia. With impressive growth expected in key sectors such as ports, tourism, real estate, financial services and outsourcing industry this is the most propitious time for existing and potential investors to capitalize on the business and investment opportunities available in Sri Lanka." Dr. Nalaka Godahewa, Chairman, SEC said, "Sri Lankan economy has been on the upswing following the end of the civil strife in mid-2009. To capitalize on the country's strong economic growth trajectory, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka is taking major steps in capital market development and regulation to increase investor confidence in the islands' financial market." He further added, "With accelerating growth prospects and great diversification opportunities Sri Lanka is emerging as a promising
destination for foreign investors, as it offers higher returns than investments in developed countries whose economies are slowing down." On this occasion, Mr. Krishan Balendra, Chairman, CSE, said, "The market has grown significantly in value in the last 3 years. Foreign participation has increased with unprecedented net foreign inflows in 2012. Given the post conflict growth prospects for the economy, the market is poised to see sustained growth going forward."
